I'm Deb - and I am the owner of Inked by Hand.
I set up Inked by Hand in December 2017 when I decided to take the plunge and sell some of my water-colour art work at a local Christmas Market. This was a huge step for me. I have been a primary teacher for |too many| years, having studied art for A-level and at University. Having recently moved 400 miles away from home due to Hubby's job relocation, I took a break from teaching and took the opportunity to start painting again.
The Christmas Market went well - so well that a shop manager from the Piece Hall (in Halifax where the Market was being held) approached me and asked if she could take prints from the stall to sell in her shop.
This gave me the confidence to take the next step.
At the time we had just started the adoption process, and I decided I wanted to work from home to help enable this to happen.... what artistic thing could I do from home? Ah ha! Wedding stationery!
I have been incredibly blessed. I sold my first piece of wedding stationery in February 2018, and have gone from strength to strength since then.
And not just strength - but an absolute love for creating art work to reflect each wedding, a love for getting everything right for each couple..... and this passion has enabled me to gain a footing in a very competitive market. I have had the privilege to take part in several styled photo-shoots, resulting in being published in several bridal magazines and blogs, and the pinnacle of this was hearing the news on Thursday | 10th January 2019| that I had been voted 'Wedding Stationer of the Year for 2019' by the organisers of the Bridebook wedding app - the most popular wedding app on the market. I also had the privilege of designing and drawing all of the themed art work, merchandise, posters and press release invitations for the Unconventional Wedding Festival in May 2019. This was a huge job, working to close specifications and tight deadlines - and something I am very proud to have been involved with.
So, what next?
I firmly believe Inked by Hand will go from strength to strength because I love what I do, and invest the time to make sure everything I make is crafted with love and care.
